Description:

Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1929. The revolver has a full nickel-plated finish and is engraved with single and double line zig-zags in open floral and geometric patterns. This embellishment is undoubtedly that of Wolf and Klar of Fort Worth, Texas. The two-piece, period custom pearl grips feature a relief carved steer head with gilded horns and gemstone eyes. The right grip is inlaid with two small Mexican gold coins one of which has been substituted for the silver Rampant Colt medallion. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in two lines. "45 COLT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt two-line/three-date patent markings followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "1" assembler's mark above the Colt Triangle/VP proofmark. The full serial number, "353684", is stamped on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the trigger guard and back strap underneath the grip. The partial serial number "84" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder between the chambers. The assembly number "339" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate and on the right side of the frame beneath the grip. "K" Colt inspection marks are stamped on the front face of the cylinder and on the inside of the hammer well. The trigger has border-less knurling on the spur. Accompanying the pistol is a Texas made "Mexican Loop" holster. The holster is constructed of medium weight russet skirting leather with a single loop. The holster has a recurved trigger guard cut-out and sewn toe. Unusably, the Mexican Loop and holster toe are sewn to the backing leaving a narrow belt loop. The front of the loop is boldly stamped: "A. AUBRISH/MAKER/ROSENBERG. TEX." in an oval cartouche. An identical cartouche is stamped on the back of the holster. Small decorative floral designs are stamped around the cartouche on the front of the holster.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% plus of the plated finish with minor holster wear on the barrel at the muzzle. There is some scattered flaking on the edges of the front sight, sides of the hammer, loading gate, face of the cylinder and edges of the cylinder flutes and stops. The edges of the zig-zag engraving show some scattered flaking. There is some minor pitting on the right side of the grip straps underneath the grip. The markings on the barrel and frame are sharp. The slightly undersized pearl grips remain in very good overall condition. Small chips are missing from the bottom front of the right grip and both of the lower edges on the left grip. The holster is in very good overall condition with smooth surfaces, tight stitching and very crisp maker's cartouches. The holster body has several minor scuff marks and there is edge wear in several places along one side of the back flap. This is a very good example of a custom engraved, nickel-plated, Colt Single Action Army with factory pearl steer head grips and a period, Texas-made, Mexican Loop holster.
