The included Colt factory letter identifies this revolver by its serial number as being "an experimental prototype of the Buntline Scout .22 Magnum revolver, with unusual finish combination, kept by the Colt factory". The letter also confirms the caliber, barrel length, barrel markings, finishes, aluminum alloy grip straps, and varnished walnut stocks with nickel Rampant Colt logo inlays. The top of the barrel has the one line Hartford address, and "COLT SINGLE ACTION BUNTLINE SCOUT .22 MAGNUM" is on the left side. The left side of the frame has a circled Rampant Colt. Nickel with blue cylinder, cylinder pin, ejector rod housing assembly and screws and anodized aluminum alloy grip straps. Provenance: Colt Factory Archive Collection.

Excellent. The revolver retains 97% original nickel finish which is taking on a frost appearance The ejector rod housing and cylinder retain 99% original blue finish with a light drag line. The grip straps retain over 98% original anodized finish. There are some minor handling marks overall. The top of the back strap is cracked below the screws. The grips are good with a large loose chip near the frame (left panel) and retaining most of the varnish.
