Description:

Offered here is a beautiful example of a high quality George Fuller manufactured percussion pepperbox with case and accessories. George Fuller of London is listed to Stockel as being active from 1831-1880. The frame is marked "GEOE. FULLER/50 SOUTHAMPTON ST. STRAND/LONDON" on the left side and "IMPROVED/REVOLVING PISTOL" on the right side. The pepperbox exhibits a finely executed floral scroll and border engraving on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The engraving extends to the bar hammer which has an additional floral blossom on the striker. Each chamber is numbered 1 through 6, and British proofs are present in the flutes. The action is equipped with a sliding hammer safety. Fitted with smooth exotic French walnut grips. The partitioned case is lined in green felt and has a Fuller paper label on the interior of the lid. The following accessories are included: bullet mold marked "No 69" and "WD," ramrod, Eley percussion cap tin, plain Dixon & Sons powder flask, lead balls and two tools. Comes with a period hand written note from the original owner gifting the pepperbox to another family member in 1895 and relaying the fact that the pepperbox was originally a gift received by him in 1840.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pepperbox retains 95% plus vivid original case colors overall. The trigger guard and hammer safety retain 80% original blue finish. The grips are also excellent with some minor handling marks and retaining most of the varnish which is beginning to craze. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with some minor handling/storage marks and some high spot wear. Nearly all of the original gun maker paper label remains. This is strictly a "top shelf" cased pepperbox that demands the attention of the serious collector.
