Description:

One of approximately 4,237 Model 1903 revolvers manufactured by Webley & Scott, this is an example of a small frame version with an uncommon 7 1/2 inch barrel. It is a rare barrel length found on examples with a fixed rear sight. The 7 1/2 inch barrel is more commonly found on target models with adjustable rear sights. The blade front sight is marked "50 YDS." The revolver falls into a serial number range not identified in Gordon Bruce's study, leaving production likely around April 1904. It has the tempered blue finish and 1 1/4 inch cylinder, all features of early production examples. British proofs are present. The left side of the top strap is marked "WEBLEY-FOSBERY." The left side plate is marked with the "W&S" winged bullet logo followed by "455 CORDITE," and the right side plate is marked with the serial number. Matching numbers are found on frame under the left grip panel, barrel, right side plate, a couple internal components and cylinder. Each grip panel is numbered "1288." The pistol is divided into two main components, an upper frame carrying the barrel, cylinder and the hammer, which is mated to the lower grip frame and single action trigger and disconnector assembly on a spring loaded track. On discharge the recoil energy drives the entire upper frame back along the track recocking the hammer and advancing the cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains 90% original blue finish with some thinning to a gray. The grips are very fine with light chipping near the bottom (right panel), some minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
