Description:

This is an example of a desirable FN-49 Luxemboug Army contract rifle as manufactured by FN Herstal. There were approximately 6,400 produced in total in three shipments with two variants known. This example falls in to the first variation as it does not have the stock bolts and it is equipped with the first pattern top cover lock. The top of the receiver is marked with the larger "AL" for Armee Luxembourg, with the Belgium factory script/letter and Perron stamped on the right side. The left side of the receiver is roll marked with the small American-style Ordnance Bomb next to a "0" followed by the one line FN address. They are fitted with the walnut pistol grip, buttstock and two piece handguard set. The stock is fitted with a stamped, cupped sheet metal buttplate. It is also fitted with the later pattern trigger guard with the smaller lock screws. The underside of the forestock in front of the trigger guard is stamped with a small circular cartouche with the intertwined letters "LR" inside. These rifles were highly popular sporting guns when they arrived on the surplus market, leaving high condition examples very difficult to find today.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% plus of the arsenal black painted metal finish with edge and high spot wear overall with some flaking and scratching of the black finish on the exposed area of the barrel and box magazine. The stock and handguard are all in very fine condition with a nice matching medium color showing numerous handling marks and light scratches overall with some heavier marks on the front underside of the forestock and top front edge of the handguard. Mechanically excellent.
