Description:

Both items in the lot are constructed with matching green herringbone twill (HBT) fabric, with the tunic outfitted for a Gefreiter (equivalent to Lance Corporal) with an assault gun unit. Serving alongside the German Panzer formations, the Sturmgeschuetz (abbreviated "StuG") takes a panzer chassis and fits it with a full sized artillery piece, providing direct and heavy fire. Originally conceived as an infantry support vehicle for blasting opposing fortifications and buildings with high explosives, the evolution of the guns mounted on the StuGs turned them into multi-purpose structure and armor killers, blurring the lines between the German StuG and the American 'Tank Destroyer'. The tunic follows the Panzer summer pattern, with the signature "wrap-around front design, though featuring a set of red (indicating artillery) trimmed Heer enlisted collar tabs with HBT backing, a pair of feldgrau enlisted shoulder boards, the factory applied Gefreiter's ribbon chevron with HBT backing on the left sleeve and a feldgrau backed Heer eagle on the left breast. Aside from the metal buttons for the collar tabs all buttons are a lightweight pressed material, with a few internal rayon fittings, pre-cut hook slots on the belt line and ventilated armpits. Interior markings include a "M43/H" white ink depot stamp and a faint black ink makers mark, possibly "Lago". Size markings: 180 180/104/45 69. The trousers are of near identical HBT construction, with steel buttons for the "load bearing" areas of the waist and fly, pressed buttons on the pockets and cuffs, and steel adjustment buckles and watch fob ring . The interior of the waist is marked with a "H44" depot marking along with the others. Size markings: 176 180/80 94, RB number: 0/0528/6831 (some digits semi-legible). These trousers are standard Heer, but came with the wrap out of the depot.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall, showing little use. A few light spots are present around the fly of the pants. A hard to find Assault Gunner's Summer Uniform Set.
