This example is an early Luger Model 1906 contract variation made specifically for the Royal Portuguese Army. There were approximately 5,000 made in total under this contract with this model being easily identified as the chamber area is marked with the "Royal Portuguese Crown/M2", which is the marking of Manuel II of Portugal. The front toggle is stamped with the DWM logo with the left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel stamped with a small triangle inside a circle, which is the Portuguese acceptance proof. This series of Luger has the first model polished lower safety on the frame with the extractor marked "CARREGADA". It correctly has grip safety and no stock lug. The grips are checkered walnut versions and the magazine is nickel plated with the wooden base. This example is complete with a 1906 pattern holster. The holster comes with a unmarked takedown tool, oiler handled, brass cleaning rod and small pin-punch (both included). Inside the holster is written in ink in two places "GALHARDO", possibly the original owner.

Fine with 75% of the arsenal refurbished blue that is fading and thinning on the edges and high spots overall with blue loss visible on the muzzle, side plate hump. underside of the frame and grip straps. The smaller polished parts retain traces of their straw colors. The grips are in very good condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with a couple minor handling marks. The holster is in very good condition with mostly pliable leather and intact stitching with only minor wrinkling on the face of the leather holster.
