Description:

Chiefly associated with the Kriegsmarine, the convertible (sometimes listed as "reversible") cap uses multi-piece construction, with a rigid band and visor and a detachable soft "crusher" style top. This style of officer's cap (specifically the oak leaf visor) is associated with the rank of Korvettenkapitan (Corvette Captain, comparable to Oberst/Major, OF-3 by modern NATO definitions) and higher senior officer ranks. While the intention was to provide a cap that could be worn year round instead of having an extra hat laying around for summertime, the style became popular with U-Boat commanders. In addition to being relatively lightweight, the prominent white top made them readily identifiable to the crew in dim light or from a distance. The white top is fitted with a gold-colored metal eagle mounted in "stick pin" style (permitting easy detachment for cleaning purposes), with a bullion wreath and cockade patch on the band, blue felt covered visor with oak leaf wirework, and a white rayon inner lining fitted with a sweat diamond bearing a faded "Kiel" address and a logo of a ship with a "K" on it's sail.

Rating Definition:

Good, with mild wear and staining on the exterior, the sweatband and underside of the visor showing cracking, and the inner lining heavily sweat stained and "salty" in appearance.
