Description:

Wogdon dueling pistols are among the most historical and were used in the most famous of all American duels: the Burr-Hamilton affair. It has a dovetailed blade front sight, "Wogdon & Barton London" in script on top of the barrel, a gold vent liner, notch rear sight on top of the breech, "Wogdon & Barton" on the center of the lock, sliding half-cock safety, silver wedge escutcheons and thumb plate, and a checkered stock. The Wogdon & Barton partnership began in 1794 and ended with Wogdon's retirement in 1803. It appears to have a set trigger (standard on Wogdon's dueling pistols).

Rating Definition:

Very good with mottled gray and brown patina and some mild pitting on the iron, general marks and scratches throughout, a sliver absent on the left side of the forend tip, crisp checkering and engraving, partially faded barrel marking, crisp lock marking, and some slight hairline cracks. A thin crack runs the circumference of the wrist and shows some filler on either side of the rear triggerguard finial, possibly an old repaired break.

Description:

The partnership Dobson & Baker formed in 1822. Thomas Dobson was a pawnbroker, silversmith, jeweler, and gunmaker starting in 1795 in London The pistol has post and notch sights, a gold band at the breech, platinum vent liner, "LONDON" on the top of the barrel, "DOBSON & BAKER" on the center of the engraved advanced flintlock, coordinating engraving on the other parts, silver forend cap, wedge escutcheons and pommel cap; nickel thumb plate, and checkered wrist.

Rating Definition:

Good overall with mild pitting and oxidation on the metal, aged patina on the silver, repaired crack on the left stock flat, crisp checkering, and some minor chips, dings, and scratches.
