Two Engraved English Flintlock Pistols

A) Desirable Wogdon & Barton Dueling Pistol

Wogdon dueling pistols are among the most historical and were used in the most famous of all American duels: the Burr-Hamilton affair. It has a dovetailed blade front sight, "Wogdon & Barton London" in script on top of the barrel, a gold vent liner, notch rear sight on top of the breech, "Wogdon & Barton" on the center of the lock, sliding half-cock safety, silver wedge escutcheons and thumb plate, and a checkered stock. The Wogdon & Barton partnership began in 1794 and ended with Wogdon's retirement in 1803. It appears to have a set trigger (standard on Wogdon's dueling pistols).

ConditionVery good with mottled gray and brown patina and some mild pitting on the iron, general marks and scratches throughout, a sliver absent on the left side of the forend tip, crisp checkering and engraving, partially faded barrel marking, crisp lock marking, and some slight hairline cracks. A thin crack runs the circumference of the wrist and shows some filler on either side of the rear triggerguard finial, possibly an old repaired break.
