This is an excellent example of a very late post-war production standard service grade Springfield M1 Garand that is fitted with a National Match barrel. This example has the "X" marked serial number indicating it was a duplicate serial number. Towards the end of the normal M1 Garand production cycle, just prior to switching tooling up for the new M14 rifles, Springfield Armory was using any and all in stock parts and barrels to finish up producing the standard service grade M1 rifles, so its not uncommon to find late 5.8-6 million range production rifles with various NM marked pats. It has the standard receiver markings over the serial number. The barrel is marked "SA D6535448 3 53 A188A", with the faint NM markings on the front left side of the barrel. The breech area of the barrel remains in the white. It has the late production "NM" marked front and rear sight set, and it has the correct post-war wide base gas cylinder and square top gas cylinder lock with an "NMC" marked gas cylinder plug. It is fitted with a nice matching dark walnut stock and handguard set that has the proper DOD acceptance cartouche on the left side of the stock and a single circled "P" in the pistol grip area. It comes with a 5 piece cleaning rod, grease pots, and oiler stored inside the buttstock.

Excellent overall with 99% original dark parkerized finish and scattered light handling marks overall. The stock and handguard set have scattered small dings and light marks and a larger visible blemish on the left side of the otherwise excellent wood. Mechanically excellent.
