This "1848" tang dated example with 1846 dated lock plate has the standard markings and features and remains in original smoothbore configuration.

Rating Definition:

Very good with fairly bright heavily polished surfaces, mild spotting and pitting, chips and cracks at the breech, a few other minor surfaces chips, distinct "JAS" (James A. Schaeffer) cartouche on the otherwise fine stock, chip of wood missing at tang, and general minor handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent.
