Description:

This early Model 1840 musket started off as a flintlock with a smoothbore, but like many Model 1840s it was converted to percussion and rifled. It may have seen use in both the Mexican-American War and Civil War. It has a bayonet stud on the bottom near the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the front barrel band, proofs and "1841" on the barrel at the breech, "1841/U.S." and "eagle/L. POMEROY" on the lock, and "ER" and "WAT" cartouches on the left flat.

Rating Definition:

Fine as converted to percussion with mottled gray and brown patina, brighter metal in the protected areas, distinct markings, minor scuffs and dings along the fine, revarnished wood, and a few minor chips. Mechanically excellent.
