Description:

The Kerr revolver's cylinder can be rotated by pulling the trigger, but the hammer must be cocked manually and also revolves the cylinder when it is. The use of an older style back action percussion lock meant that these revolvers were easier to work on and repair than more complicated revolver actions. These revolver were exported for the Confederacy. This revolver does not carry the Confederate contract "JS/anchor" marking. While revolvers with the "JS" marking is generally found on Confederate Kerr examples, the lack of the marking does not necessarily preclude it from Confederate use. The revolver does have the "LAC" London Armory marking followed by "crown/GP" and "crown/V" proofs on the upper left barrel flat, a frame marked "LONDON/ARMORY" on the left side and "KERR'S PATENT. 9900" on the right side, and a lock plate marked "LONDON ARMOURY CO." the number "9900" is repeated on the cylinder. The frame under the cylinder is marked "JC," "482" and "1." "482" is repeated on the trigger guard. Consignor research is included.

Rating Definition:

Fair overall. The revolver has a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting. The grip has some worn checkering and a couple missing slivers of wood. The action does not function and the modern replacement loading lever does not latch.
