Description:

Around 8,200 of these "Grapevine Carbines" were manufactured in 1863 and 1864 by Edward Gwyn and Abner Campbell in Hamilton, Ohio. They were manufactured in the same factory as the Cosmopolitan carbines upon which they are based. This example has standard lock plate and frame markings, matching numbers on the frame, barrel, breech block and lever and two crisp script letter cartouches on the left side of the wrist. Many western/mid-western mounted units were issued these carbines during the war.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 50% original blue finish thinning to a brown. The remaining metal surfaces retain 60% original case colors. The saddle bar is missing. The stock is also fine showing a few minor pressure dents and scratches and two holes from an absent fitting. Mechanically excellent.
