Description:

Manufactured in 1860 with the rare early shorter barrel length and distinctive fluted cylinder marked with the patent date in one of the flutes. Only around 4,000 revolvers were equipped with the fluted cylinder. The trigger guard/front strap was silver plated as was usually done on Colt's civilian revolvers, and there are no visible government markings. However, the revolver is cut for a shoulder stock and has a four screw frame like the martial Model 1860 revolvers. Many of these pre-Civil War Model 1860 Army revolvers were sold through dealers in the South. It also features a German silver blade front sight, the one-line Hartford address, standard frame patent marking, some single letter inspection marks, all matching serial numbers, and a smooth walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original blue in the protected areas of the barrel, gray and brown patina on the balance, 75% of the silver plating on the grip frame, moderate holster type wear, scrapes and dings, and some faint pitting. The cylinder has over 30% of the period refinish remaining. The lightly sanded and re-oiled grip is otherwise good and has mild edge wear and few minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
