Description:

Features low profile blade and notch sights, "HITCHCOCK MUZZY & CO" on the upper left flat at the breech, "1862" marked on the top barrel flat at the breech, "Josh Golcher" lock with a game scene, plain trigger, tap for an absent tang peep sight, and German silver fittings including a round patch/cap box with "REMINGTON'S/ILION NY" on the underside of the door. The barrel marking indicates it was either manufactured in New York by Hitchcock, Muzzy & Co. in 1840-1857 or built using one of their barrels. The "1862" suggests the latter.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The shortened barrel displays mostly dark brown patina and has flash pitting at the breech. The lock has faint case colors, mostly silver gray patina, some brown patches, and minor oxidation. The stock is very good and has a minor chip at the tail of the lock, some spotting, and general marks and scratches. Mechanically fine.
