Description:

Manufactured in Durs Egg shop in London around the 1790s and expertly converted in the early 19th century. Egg (1748-1831) immigrated to England after apprenticing in Solothurn and Paris. He first established his shop in London in 1772. He made guns owned by King George IV, Napoleon, and other leading men of the day and also manufactured guns for the Royal Army and Navy. They have blade and notch sights, "D. EGG, LONDON" and single gold bands inlaid in gold on top of the barrels, London private proof and view marks on the bottom of the barrels near the breech, "D. Egg" in script on the locks which have sliding half-cock safeties, plain triggers, martial and floral engraving patterns, horn forend caps, nickel-silver thumb plates, and fine checkering. They come in relined reproduction case with an oak leaf pattern powder flask, bullet mold, several lead balls, combination mallet/ramrod, and cap tin.

Rating Definition:

Very good as converted to percussion and refinished with half of the brown finish, much of the gold inlay, dark bluish and gray patina on the balance, some minor pitting, and general marks and scratches. The stock is fair with a spliced repair near the muzzle on the right, small tension crack on the left flat, and distinct checkering patterns. Mechanically excellent. The case and accessories are good with reproduction maker label, moderate storage wear and some loose dividers with tattered lining.
