Description:

Manufactured in 1864. The top of the barrel has the one-line New York U.S. American address, the frame has "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side, the trigger guard has "36 CAL" on the left side, and the cylinder has the roll engraved Texas Naval battle scene. Matching numbers are found on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, wedge and arbor pin. A streamline version of the Model 1851 Navy, the Model 1861 Navy is often considered the most attractive of all Colt percussion revolvers. Although manufactured from 1861 to 1873, Colt produced the Model 1861 in limited production quantities.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 60% original bright blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The cylinder has a smooth brown patina and retains nearly all of the naval scene. Flashes of original case colors remain on the hammer and frame. Traces of original silver plating remain the protected areas of the grip straps. The grip is very fine showing some minor pressure dents and scratches and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. A solid representative example of a Model 1861 Navy worthy of any Colt percussion collection.
