Description:

Only 153 of the Short Range Borchardt rifles were manufactured in November 1878 to October 1880. Hugo Borchardt's design was originally aimed at military contracts, but the Sharps factory quickly found that it was also suitable for target shooting, and lightened the action and used wood or hard rubber side panels. It features a Rocky Mountain style German silver blade front sight, Lawrence patent notch and folding ladder rear sight, standard barrel markings, a short-range peep sight in the integral base on the upper tang, plain trigger, checkered schnabel forearm, and a multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with curled tip, fine feathered figure, and a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 25% of the original blue finish, traces of original case colors, dark gray and brown patina on the balance, mild edge wear, scattered dings and scratches, aging of the hard rubber side panels, and minor cracking of the left panel near the rear edge. The wood is fine as refinished and has crisp checkering, minor dings and scratches, attractive figure on the right, and a pleasant cherry tone and glossy finish throughout. Mechanically fine.
