This is one of 4,000 New Model carbines manufactured by Evans Repeating Rifle Co. from 1877-1879. The top of the barrel is marked "EVANS REPEATING RIFLE MECHANIC FALLS, ME. PAT. DEC. 8, 1868 & SEPT. 16, 1871 U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight, and "44 S&W R CTG" is marked to the left of the rear sight indicating it has been converted to fire the more readily available .44 S&W Russian cartridge. The underside has a "*," "13," and a "P." It has a small blade front sight on a thick base, standard notch and folding ladder rear sight, a sporting rifle style checkered forearm, and standard buttstock.

Fine with 70% plus original blue finish on the barrel and action, 40% original case colors on the lever and buttplate, extensive light surface oxidation, and minor marks and scratches. The wood is also fine with small dings and scrapes, and fairly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
