Description:

Manufactured in 1918, this World War I vintage 1911 has been refitted with a number of 1911A1 components and received a very through package of engraving, with over 75% of the surface covered in fine scroll engraving with textured backgrounds. The original "eagle/S11" and "P" inspector proofs have been partially cut through and the original 1911 nomenclature lost, with the address, patent, and U.S. Property marks present and solid. The Rampant Colt on the slide has been enhanced with a raised and engraved silver inlay, the grips are mother of pearl with Colt medallions, and the flat mainspring housing is inlaid with four raised and sculpted stars and "U.S. ARMY". The full blue magazine is also enhanced, with silver fill in the "COLT/45 AUTO" and "M" markings and a raised and engraved silver Rampant Colt at the toe. No engraver's signature was found on the pistol, and no information was supplied by the consignor regarding the engraver or recipient.

Rating Definition:

Fine as custom engraved/decorated, with most of the deep "royal blue" finish, showing some minor spotting and handling marks overall. The engraving and inlay are all sharply executed. The near mint custom pearl grips overhang slightly at the bottom and show minor chipping at the toes, but otherwise are a good fit. Mechanically excellent.
