The scarcest group of Colt Lightning rifles, only 6,496 of these large frame rifles were manufactured between 1887-1894. This example was manufactured in the first year and has a Rocky Mountain style German silver blade front sight, elevation adjustable sporting rear sight, standard markings, checkered forearm, and smooth stock.

Fine with 60% plus original blue finish, gray and brown patina on the balance, some light pitting, light scratches, and mild edge wear. The wood is also fine and has mostly crisp checkering, a few slight chips at the edges, and a some faint scratches. Mechanically excellent.
