Description:

Developed during World War II, the Swift Training Rifle was designed as an inexpensive tool for teaching basic aiming and rifle handling to new recruits without needing ammunition or a proper range. In lieu of a bullet, the Swift projects a pair of needles out of the "muzzle" area to strike a target positioned at very close range; the first needle strikes whatever the trainee is aiming at, and the second hits a half inch to the immediate right, providing clear indication if the device was canted at the moment of firing, with a spring-loaded plate in the butt acting as a pressure safety and forcing proper seating of the device before discharge. The muzzle is stamped "1349" over a brass data plate, with a small "crown" proof on the underside of the wrist. Included with the rifle is the transit case, a set of "bulls-eye" style targets, a needle cover and a small calibration frame.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, with some mild dings and dents on the wood, and a mixed brown patina and mild spotting on the metal. The action appears to be in fine working order.
