Description:

The sidearm and official badge of rank of the State Forestry Service, a wide deal of latitude was given to Foresters in the design of their weapons, with exception of the grip; all Forester's knives bear 3 metal oak leaf and acorn ornaments on the obverse, with stag being used for Trainee and Assistant Foresters. This example is patterned after a traditional hunter's blade, measuring 19 1/4 inches overall with a 12 3/4 inch game scene etched blade, clamshell languet with a scene of a boar being taken down by dogs, a dual quillion languet shaped like a stag and doe, oak and floral engraved collar and pommel cap, and one piece stag grip with acorn ornaments. With a gilt fitted black leather sheath, marked "1" on the backs of the throat and tip, with an acorn frog stud and a replacement small utility/skinning knife, 7 3/4 inches long with a 4 inch blade, stag grip panels and a gold pommel cap. A similarly configured blade is pictured on page 144 of LTC. James Atwood's "The Daggers and Edged Weapons of Hitler's Germany," where it is described as a Hunting Association dress cutlass.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, showing a few light handling marks overall.
