This is a mid-war 98K rifle that was manufactured by Mauser in 1943,and is fitted with the short eye-relief ZF41 scope. These were intended to be issued as a marksman's rifle to infantryman with higher shooting skills. The rear sight base is fitted with a long-eye relief 1.5x scope, while still retaining the standard regular issue rifle sights. The scope is marked "ZF41/1." and it is fitted in a "duv/eagle/214" proofed steel marked mount. The top of the receiver is stamped with the wartime code of "byf" for the Mauser factory over "43". The left side of the receiver has an eagle firing proof and the serial number, and the right side has an "eagle/135" proof. The various parts have the standard "eagle/135" proofs. It has the standard milled parts with the wartime laminated stock and handguard with a cupped buttplate. The stock has single "Eagle/WaA135" proof on the right side, and it is complete with a smooth brown leather sling and cleaning rod.

Very fine overall with 75% of the original blue finish showing much wear and blue loss on all the exposed metal from actual handling and use in the field. The scope and mount retain 80% of their blued finish thinning overall and the optics are viewable but occluded with small specs inside the scope. The stock and handguard are both fine having been stained. Mechanically excellent.
