Manufactured in 1894, this Winchester Model 1892 Deluxe rifle has several rare special order features. As documented by the accompanying factory letter, this rifle had an octagon barrel in .25-20 caliber (currently round), set trigger (currently double set triggers), checkered pistol grip stock, blank in the rear dovetail slot, half magazine, Lyman combination front and tang sights and casehardened frame when it was received in the warehouse on November 18, 1895. The rifle was shipped the next day, and the letter lists several repaired and returned dates as the following: "nothing done, no date; 11-24-95; 12-7-95; 9-11-96; 4-17-14; 5-28-14; 5-6-19." The later production factory replacement .25-20 WCF barrel has the Model 92 legend on the left side and the two-line address on the right side, all at the breech, and a Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/PAT. OCT 14 1884." The left side of the tang is marked "2339F," and the tang cut-out on the stock is marked "2122." The highly figured stock has fine checkering, a Winchester hard rubber grip cap and a crescent buttplate. The barrel and bolt are blue, and the remaining surfaces are casehardened. Perhaps a factory exhibition rifle, indeed a rare Winchester regardless.

Extremely fine as factory refurbished. The barrel retains 90% slightly thinning factory blue finish. The remaining surfaces retain 85% refurbished case colors. The wood is extremely fine showing some chipping near the lower tang, some minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. Deluxe Winchester Model 1892s originally shipped with casehardened finish are seldom ever found!
