Pre-War Smith & Wesson .357 Registered Magnum Double Action Revolver with Factory Letter

Each Smith & Wesson Registered Magnum was built to the specifications of the buyer, then registered by number to the owner by Douglas Wesson himself, the then Vice President of Smith & Wesson. This particular example, number 56, is one of 839 Registered Magnums manufactured with a 6 inch barrel. The accompanying factory letter confirms the registration number, 6 inch barrel, square notch rear sight and blue finish. When it was shipped on June 7, 1935 to Kennedy Brothers Co., Minneapolis, MN it had checkered walnut grips, 1/10 inch Patridge front sight and a grip adaptor. It is fitted with a replacement Pachmayr grip and red ramp front sight. The left side of the grip frame has the factory refinish mark for February 1957 ("257").The revolver also has standard S&W markings with "REG. 56" marked on the yoke, matching serial numbers on the butt, ejector shroud and cylinder and matching assembly numbers on the yoke and crane. Comes with a speed loader.

ConditionExceptionally fine as factory refinished. The revolver retains 98% plus of the high polished blue finish showing slight loss at the muzzle, a cylinder drag line and some scattered minor handling marks. Most of the case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The replacement grips show some fading and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
