Offered here is a Colt experimental prototype pocket pistol in the style of the Pony which was advertised by Colt in the 1973 catalog as being "perfect for off-duty police use." Colt imported approximately forty-seven of the "Pony" automatic pistols from Firearms International (FI). However, the Colt Pony program never received final approval and thirty-seven of the pistols were returned to FI. The remaining ten Pony pistols were presented to various Colt executives. (This ultra-rare Colt pre-production pistol should not be confused with the Colt Pony double action automatic pistol introduced by Colt in the 1990s.) The accompanying factory letter confirms the barrel length, finish, grips, missing rear sight, lack of Colt markings with the exception of the serial number and grip inlaid logos and "wood grain" box with a Colt Custom Gun Shop label hand numbered to the gun. The pistol was kept by the Colt factory until it was released in October 2008. Provenance: Colt Factory Archive Collection.

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% original blue finish showing some minor high edge wear and some minor handling marks. The grips are also excellent with a few nicks in the overall crisp checkering. The box is very good with a tear on the bottom and some minor wear. Mechanically fine, missing rear sight.
