Description:

The serial number range (either 3571 or 9571, as the first digit is barely legible)of this U.S. Springfield Model 1892 Rifle puts this example in the 2nd Type variation which was produced in 1894 and 1895. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./1894 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" and the serial number. Standard raised blade front sight and 1896 pattern adjustable ladder rear sight graduated to "18" on the ladder and marked "6", "4", "5" and "6" (partially obscured by handguard) on the left side of the base. Mounted with a full one-piece straight grip stock with correct short handguard, featuring an underbarrel ramrod, two-strap front barrel band, a flat iron buttplate with no provision for a trap, and a faint, illegible cartouche. With leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a mostly brown/gray patina with light oxidation, small dings, and handling marks overall. The receiver is mostly gray with areas of some bright edge wear, and scattered dings. The wood is good with chips absent the toe and heel, very faint markings, and bruises throughout. Mechanically excellent. Sling is broken and flaking. Missing front stacking swivel. Original configuration Model 1892 Krag rifles like this one are far and few between!
