Description:

This is a solid example of an early M1892 Krag rifle that has been arsenal converted into the M1896 configuration. The side of the receiver is marked "U.S./ 1894. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" next to the serial number and it has the updated stock with the plugged cleaning rod slot/hole, the second pattern front barrel band with double straps on top, the later bolt with the extractor with pin the receiver has also been altered for the extractor pin. Mounted on a straight grip, finger groove stock with a faint cartouche, and a circled script "P" proof behind the trigger guard. The stock is fitted with the updated smooth buttplate with a curved toe, butt trap and short handguard that meets the front edge of the receiver fitted with a replacement 1898 rear sight. A section of replacement wood has been arsenal installed in the former ramrod slot, secured with two pins and resting flush with the handguard. A three-piece steel cleaning rod and a nickel finished oiler are inside the trap.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal converted, with 80% plus blue finish, showing some light wear along the edges and muzzle, as well as some minor spotting and handling mark. The reoiled stock is very good, with mild scuffs and dents overall. Mechanically excellent.
