Scarce High Condition Smith & Wesson New Model Number Three Japanese Contract Revolver, with Factory Documented Takata & Company Shipped

According to the included factory letter, this revolver was shipped on 28 October 1896 to Takata & Company of Yokohama, Japan. Takata & Company served as agents of the Japanese Government for Smith & Wesson orders, with most acquisitions going to the Imperial Navy. Half moon front sight and notch rear sight on latch, with the one-line "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A." address on top of the rib flanked by Maltese crosses. Matching numbers on the barrel, latch, cylinder and butt, casehardened hammer and trigger guard, and checkered hard rubber grips with Smith & Wesson imprints and a lanyard ring on the butt.

ConditionVery good, with 80% of the original blue finish, showing a gray patina along the edges and grip straps, and areas of brown patina on the barrel and cylinder. Strong original case colors are present on the hammer and trigger guard. Grips are very good with mild dents and chips. Mechanically excellent. One of the highest condition Japanese contracts this writer can recall.
