Description:

Manufactured from 1876 to the 1880s, these large frame single action revolvers were also known as the "Army Revolver". This early model features an open top frame, wedge in front of cylinder pin housing below the barrel, scooped cylinder flutes, sliding loading gate and square butt with lanyard ring. The front sight is a blade integral to the barrel, and the rear sight is a "V" notch just ahead of the hammer on the frame. The left side of the barrel has the one-line Hopkins & Allen address marking, and the top of the barrel has the one-line Merwin Hulbert address/patent information. The revolver lacks a caliber marking. The serial number is stamped on the butt, and the assembly number "84" appears on the cylinder, barrel lug and grip frame. Provenance: Gillespie collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The revolver retains 99% plus original nickel finish showing a barely visible cylinder drag line. The hammer retains 98% original case colors. The grips are also excellent plus with highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent. You would be hard pressed to find a better high conditioned early production Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Large Frame Single Action revolver!
