Merwin Hulbert Double Action Pocket Army Revolver with conventional cylinder flutes and bird's head grip. The deluxe revolver features extensive factory punch dot floral pattern engraving and has a rectangular panel on the left side of the frame engraved with a longhorn bull. The bird's head grips are mother-of-pearl. The hammer, trigger, trigger guard and cylinder latch have a casehardened finish. The left side of the barrel has a panel with the Hopkins & Allen address over 1877-1883 patent dates. The lower right side of the frame is marked "MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY" in two lines below the cylinder. The opposite side of the frame is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873" in two lines. The serial number, "6776", is located on the right side of the bird's head grip. The rear face of the cylinder and the front of the barrel are marked with the assembly number "736". Excellent. The revolver retains 97% of the original nickel-plated finish. There is moderate flaking and handling wear on the grip straps and on several of the cylinder flutes. The balance of the finish is intact and the engraved surfaces are crisp and deep. At least 85% of the muted case colors remain on the hammer, trigger guard, trigger and barrel latch. The grips have yellowed slightly with age but remain in excellent plus condition. A scarce and attractive example of a Merwin Hulbert deluxe Pocket Army DA revolver.
