Manufactured in 1884 and subsequently custom embellished (by either Cole Agee or a contemporary) with a desirable cattle brand motif. The revolver has near full coverage cattle brand and floral scroll motif on a punch dot background. This motif was an extremely rare and highly desirable pattern developed in the late 1940s that depicted all the of more prominent and historic Texas cattle brand used in the 1880s and early 1900s. The engraving on this revolver has the recognizable "XIT," "IXL," "2 Lazy 2 (sideways) 2 P" and many other famous Texas brands. The engraving on the blue finished surfaces is outlined in gold. The ejector rod housing, cylinder pin, screw heads, trigger, hammer and loading gate are plated in gold. The remaining surfaces are dark blue. The barrel is stamped with the one-line Colt Hartford address (faint) on top. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking. Extremely fine as custom embellished. The revolver retains 99% of the blue and gold finishes showing a few small patches of cycling wear with pitting on the cylinder. The grips are excellent with highly attractive grain and color. The cylinder does not lock properly when the hammer is cocked.
