Manufactured in 1880 and subsequently custom embellished (by Cole Agee or a contemporary) with a desirable cattle brand motif. The revolver has near full coverage cattle brand and floral scroll motif on a punch dot background. This motif was an extremely rare and highly desirable pattern developed in the late 1940s that depicted all the of more prominent and historic Texas cattle brand used in the 1880s and early 1900s. The engraving on this revolver has the recognizable "XIT," "IXL," "2 Lazy 2 (sideways) 2 P" and many other famous Texas brands. The engraving on the blue finished surfaces is outlined in gold. The ejector rod housing, cylinder pin, screw heads, trigger, hammer and loading gate are plated in gold. The remaining surfaces are dark blue. The barrel is stamped with the one-line Colt Hartford address (faint) on top and "44," indicating the caliber, on the underside. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, trigger guard, back strap, barrel and cylinder. Provenance: Gillespie collection.

Extremely fine as custom embellished. The revolver retains 99% plus of the blue and gold finishes showing slight loss at the muzzle. The undersized grips are very good, and there are five notches on the left side near the bottom. Mechanically excellent.
