This is a much sought after example of an etched panel Colt Single Action Army revolver. The barrel has the two-line address stamped on top and the etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side. This etched barrel panel marking was officially replaced by the Colt factory in the early 120,000 serial number range with the much easier to produce and larger roll-stamping. The left side of the frame is marked with the three-line, three patent dates, and the upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "44 CF." The ejector rod has a crescent head with large dished out area. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .44-40 caliber, blue finish and wood stocks when it was shipped to Manzanares & Co. of Las Vegas, Territory of New Mexico, on June 18, 1887, as part of a 100 gun shipment. Experts believe that several large shipments (50-100 units) of SAAs were delivered to Manzanares only in the year 1887, and these revolvers fall into the 121000 serial number range. The retailer was founded by successful politician and businessman Francisco Antonio Manzanares (1843-1904), who had a tremendous impact on the economic development of the New Mexico Territory, especially in Las Vegas. Documented New Mexico Territory shipped SAA are scarce and highly desirable by today's collectors.

Very good. The revolver has a mottled gray patina with traces of original blue finish and silvered out case colors in the protected areas. There is some mild-minor pitting. The etched panel is weak but legible. The grip is fine showing high edge wear, a few heavy pressure dents on the bottom and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
