Manufactured in 1889 as a third model with the dust cover rail integrally machined as part of the receiver. The barrel has dovetailed blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights and is marked with the two-line address/patent dates information ahead of the rear sight and "22 SHORT" at the breech. The cartridge elevator has the caliber marking: "22 CAL/SHORT." The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873." The nicely figured straight grip stock is fitted with a crescent buttplate. Note: The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in.38 caliber (currently an octagon barrel in .22 short) and plain trigger when it was received in the warehouse on December 21, 1889, and shipped on December 24.

Fine (See note above). The rifle retains 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. Some cold blue touch-up is present on the dust cover. 20% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
