Description:

Manufactured in 1898. Fitted with a part octagon #2 barrel which is equipped with a globe front and an adjustable rear sporting sight. There is a medium range tang mounted peep sight. Standard two line address ahead of the rear sight, "22 LONG R." at the breech and the serial number and 1879 patent date are on the lower tang. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, breechblock, buttplate and lever, adjustable single set trigger, and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap, crescent buttplate and sling swivel eyes. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, 28 inch 1/2 octagon barrel, set trigger, checkering with pistol grip stock, and that it was received into and shipped out of the warehouse to order number 49526 on January 15, 1900. The letter also states the rifle was returned for repair on February 9, 1900 #51791.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% original blue finish remaining, showing some mild muzzle wear, some edge wear, some thinning to a smooth plum on the breech end of the barrel and some mild thinning on the receiver. Most of the bright original case colors remain on the breechblock, hammer and protected areas of the lever, with a smooth silver/gray on the lever and a smooth mottled gray on the buttplate. The wood has been freshened with a coat of varnish and remains fine with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The checkering remains crisp. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
