Description:

Manufactured in 1876. The revolver has the dual sub-inspection marks of Lewis Draper (L.D.) on the frame and John T. Cleveland (J.T.C.) on the barrel, cylinder and grip. "Duel sub-inspected" Cavalry Model Single Actions are extremely desirable revolvers. Colt SAA experts and authors Kopec and Fenn only accounted for 36 Cavalry Models with Lewis Draper sub-inspected frames in the 30693-35569 serial number range on page 45in "Cavalry & Artillery Revolvers…a Continuing Study." Although this revolver is not listed in the study, serial number 32039 is listed, which is one digit away from this revolver. The ejector rod has the early bullseye head. The top of the barrel has the one-line Hartford address. A "P" proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel and on the cylinder. The left side of the frame is marked with the two-line patent dates followed by "U.S." Both sides of the grip have a stamped script letter cartouche with the left side having the date "1876." Matching serial numbers are on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with .45 caliber chambering and blue finish when it was sold to the U.S. government and delivered to the U.S. government inspector located at the Colt plant on November 21, 1876. The barrel length and type of stocks was not listed, which usually indicates 7 1/2 inches and walnut, respectively.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and grip straps retain 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. The refinished cylinder has been professionally renumbered to match the gun and has a smooth brown patina with traces of blue in the flutes. The frame and hammer retain 60% original case colors. The slightly undersize replacement grip is very fine showing some small minor dings and legible cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
