Roughly 6,000 of these pistols were manufactured around 1872-1888. This example has a period style, New York engraving. The frame features floral scrollwork on a punch dot background and scallop borders. The scrollwork extends to the barrel at the breech with the addition of a triangle band motif. Scrollwork surrounds the pinched front sight. Tulip blossoms are engraved on the rear of the breechblock and ahead of the stamped two-line Remington address/patent dates barrel marking. The back strap has a floral engraving without a punch dot background, and the trigger guard has a starburst motif. Provenance: Gillespie collection.

Very good plus. The pistol has a smooth crisp brown-gray patina overall. There is a small patch of pitting on the barrel. The attractive forearm and shrunken grip are both very fine showing some typical hairline age cracks and attractive grain and color. Mechanically excellent.
