Description:

Only around 5,000 Remington-Keene firearms were manufactured in several configurations in 1880-1883. This is a standard "Hunter" or "Sporting" model. These were the first bolt action firearms manufactured by Remington as production items. The only bolt action Remington manufactured prior were the small number of single shot rifles in the late 1860s which had a similar bolt design. It has a dovetailed post front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION, N.Y./PAT. FEB'Y 24 MCH. 17. 1874 JAN.18/SEPT 26 1876. MCH 20 JULY 31 1877" on top of the bolt, and a prior owner's Social Security number electropenciled on the left side of the receiver and the trigger guard.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 30% plus of the fading original blue finish, some light pitting and spotting, thin cracks in the left stock flat, various scrapes and dings in the wood, and an altered front sight. Mechanically fine. Generally these are reported as needing the hammers pulled manually to full cock by the shooter after closing the bolt, but this one fully cocks when the bolt is closed.
