Description:

Frank Wesson manufactured these Third Types around 1872-1888. The inside of the frame, left side of the barrel, trigger guard, and underside of the buttplate are numbered "7." The hammer striker is numbered "37." It has a brass blade front sight on a dovetailed iron base, empty rear sight dovetail and peep sight mount, the two-line address and patent marking on the top of the barrel, the 1872 patent on the side of the hammer, very fine scroll, geometric, and punch dot engraving; and a monogram consisting of the intertwined letters "B," "S," "C," and "I" on the left side above the triggers.

Rating Definition:

Fine with a refinished and rebored barrel. The barrel retains 85% plus of the brown finish and 50% of the original nickel plating. The balance has smooth gray patina, and there are patches of mild pitting. The engraving and checkering are crisp. The stock is fine with a subtle crack through the wrist on the right, glossy varnished finish, and minor nicks and scratches. Mechanically fine.
