This revolver was manufactured in 1922 and is chambered for both .44 Russian and .44 S&W Special cartridges. According David Brown in "The 36 Calibers of the Colt Single Action Army," Colt only manufactured 24 standard frame Single Action Army dual caliber .44 Russian/.44 S&W Special revolvers (page 103-104). The factory letter lists it as shipped on October 18, 1922, to Mitchell Tourrs Hardware Co. (address unknown) as the sole gun of this type with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .44 S&W, nickel finish and type of stocks not listed. The earlier production replacement grips on this revolver feature fancy Fluer-de-lis checkering. The back of both grips are stamped "HBB/HBB" and hand marked "5461." "HBB" is repeated on the bottom of both panels. The barrel has the one-line Hartford address on top and "RUSSIAN/S&W SPECIAL" followed by "44" on the left side. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with a "1" above a partially factory struck Colt "VP" proofmark. The grip straps and cylinder (09) are numbered to the gun, and the matching assembly number is marked on the loading gate and frame.

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% original nickel finish with most of the loss on the hammer. The replacement grips are fine with a gouge on the bottom and a missing chip near the bottom of the right panel, otherwise some minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
