Description:

Introduced in 1842, the Kammerlader (breech loader) was the first breech loading percussion rifle to be adopted as a primary arm by a European nation, and remained in service until 1867. There are similarities with the American Hall rifles, but the Kammerlader has a much tighter gas seal. At the same time, most other European nations were cutting costs by converting outdated flintlock muskets to the percussion system rather than creating new innovative weapons. It has a blade front sight, sword bayonet lug, notch and folding ladder rear sight, the matching serial number stamped on many components along with Norwegian proofmarks, the year "1857" and the "crown/K" mark of the Kongsberg Arsenal.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with dark brown patina, brighter metal in the concealed areas, light oxidation and pitting, aged patina on the brass, and small dents and chips in the stock. Mechanically excellent.
