Manufactured in 1985. This two chopper-lump barrel set consists of two 12 gauge barrel sets, one 28 inches in length and the other 30 inches in length. Both have a single brass bead on the solid concave rib both marked "J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON, ENGLAND". Both have 2 3/4 inch chambers. Both sets are choked improved cylinder/modified. Both are equipped with ejectors. Both sets share a nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut forearm with floral design engraved hardware. Both sets have various proof marks for 1985 and are numbered to the gun. The frame and side plates are casehardened and nicely decorated with fine scroll and rosette engraving. Each side plate is marked "J. PURDEY & SONS.". Double triggers, niter blue cocking indicators, automatic tang mounted safety with gold "SAFE," blued top lever and trigger guard, and mounted with a nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut straight grip stock with teardrop flats, solid leather recoil pad and gold inset "MJR" on the underside. Drop at the comb is 1 1/2 inches, heel 1 15/16 inches and the length of pull is 15 1/4 inches. Barrel measurements: 28 inch set- both barrels proved at .728 and measuring .730 with a minimum wall thickness of .032 on the right and a minimum wall thickness of .033 on the left. The 30 inch set was also proved at .728 and measures .731 on the right with a minimum wall thickness of .031 and measures .730 on the left with a minimum wall thickness of .033. Weight: With 28 inch barrels- 6 lbs. 12.8 oz. and with 30 inch barrels- 6 lbs. 14.4 oz. Comes in a oak and leather two level Huey case with brass corner protectors and fittings, leather straps and carrying handle. There is a James Purdey & Sons label and measurement tag are affixed to the inside of the lid and wine colored suede lining. In the case are Purdey marked two piece brass and ebony cleaning rod, ebony handled screwdriver, nickel oiler and two snap caps. The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in 1985 with two sets of barrels, one of 28 inch and the other of 30 inch. The records note that the initials "M.J.R." were to be inlaid in gold on the stock and metal heel and toe pieces fitted.

Excellent. The 30 inch barrels have 99% plus blue finish on the rib and protected area around the rib. The 28 inch set retains 99% blue finish, and both show only the slightest handling/storage marks. The frame and side plates retain 99% of the bright case colors with areas faded to gray. The wood is excellent plus with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear and crisp. Mechanically excellent. The case and all accessories are excellent.
