This rifle dates to circa 1900 and has been rebarreled in the late 1930s using barrels tubed to .22 Hornet. Birmingham nitro proofmarks and the proof date code for 1938 on the barrels. It features a raised ramp bead blade front sight and three folding leaf rear express sight with "100", "200" and "300" yard markings. The top of the smooth solid rib is marked "GEORGE GIBBS LTD, 39 CORN STREET, BRISTOL" ahead of the rear sights and is engraved with fine English scroll behind the sights. The breech end is also drilled and tapped for scope mounting. There is a sling swivel eye mounted on the underside of the barrels. The barrel flats are marked with a "crown/BV" and "crown/BP" proofmarks, ".22 HORNET 1.43"" and "45 GR BULLET". The treble grip action, side locks, break lever, trigger guard and forearm hardware are engraved with fine English scroll and rosette patterns. Each Joseph Brazier lock is marked "GEORGE GIBBS". Tang mounted manual safety with gold "SAFE", the barrels, break lever and trigger guard are blue, the remaining metal surfaces are casehardened, and it's mounted with a very nicely figured multi-point checkered walnut splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with tear drop flats, a metal grip cap, checkered horn buttplate, sling swivel eye and silver initial oval. Length of pull is 14 inches. Weight: 8 lbs 4.4 oz.

Very fine as professionally refinished with 98% blue finish remaining showing some very minor muzzle and high point wear and some wear on the edges of the trigger guard. 98% bright case colors remain with some mild edge wear. The older replacement wood shows with only a few minor handling marks and very crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. Overall a very useable classic British double rifle.
