Description:

The accompanying factory letter lists this rare pre-5 screw Model 1902 revolver with a 6 1/2 inch barrel, dual caliber roll-mark, adjustable target sights, blue finish, square butt (which began after serial number 58,000) and checkered walnut grips when it was shipped to the Schmeltzer Company, Kansas City, MO on June 26, 1906. Schmeltzer was a pioneer sporting goods retailer that started in Leavenworth, KS in 1857. In 1887, the retailer moved to Kansas City and became the largest store of its kind in the world. The revolver also has standard S&W markings, matching assembly numbers on the yoke and frame, un-numbered grips and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder and barrel. In addition to the factory letter, numerous research document copies regarding the Schmeltzer Company are included.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus original blue finish with the balance thinning to a faint blended patina. Most of the original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are also excellent showing a few minor marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A seldom seen, very early production .38 M&P Target.
