The Registered Magnum was the first production arm chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge and served as an influence on all later large caliber double actions. Built to customer specifications and registered to the owner by Douglas Wesson himself, the 5,400 Registered Magnums made between 1935 and 1939 are virtually custom made revolvers and remain "state of the art" in handgun manufacture today. This revolver is one of only 869 manufactured with a 5 inch barrel. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver, registration number 2646, with a 5 inch barrel, Call gold bead front sight, square notch rear sight and Magna stocks. It was factory sighted for a 6 o'clock hold at 25 yards using magnum ammunition and was shipped on August 25, 1937, to the City of Butte Purchasing Department in Butte, Montana. It has standard S&W markings with "REG. 2646" stamped on the yoke, matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, ejector shroud and right grip panel and matching assembly numbers on the yoke and crane. Comes with a floral tooled Heiser holster.

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus original blue finish showing slight holster, some very scattered minor scratches and a light cylinder drag line. The Call bead front sight has been modified. The grips are good with a sizable repaired chip (right grip panel), a couple nicks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The holster is extremely fine.
