Description:

This is an exceptionally fine example of a U.S.G.I. National Match 1911A1 pistol with a Colt 1944 vintage receiver converted into a National Match semi-automatic pistol by Springfield Armory (and so marked). The slide used on this specific pistol is a Drake Manufacturing component marked on the right side below the ejection port "DRAKE MFG. CORP." and on the left side "NM 7791435". The top of the slide has a hardness test punch mark where normally the "P" proof is seen located in front of the fully adjustable rear sight which is marked on the right side "TRIANGLE/HEG" with the small "U.S." on the left side. The front sight is a serrated Patridge type. The frame is marked on the right side "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number and "M1911A1 US ARMY" over "SA" towards the front portion, and with a "T" below the serial number and "NM" on the side of the trigger guard, and on the left side with the "GHD" inspector marking over-stamped with a "P", the original "P" proof stamped near the magazine release, along with an additional poorly stamped "P" above the magazine release. The barrel is a Colt production that is marked on top "45 AUTO/NM 7791414" over the full matching serial number "1730838", a "C" in a square on the right lug and "M P" on the left lug. The barrel is correctly fitted with a GI National Match barrel bushing that is marked "7267718/NM". The front of the grip frame has been rough stippled, and the gun has the late production narrow checkered hammer with hand polished sides, checkered thumb safety, serrated slide stop, a hand checkered arched mainspring housing and an adjustable trigger. The grips are commercial checkered walnut that were installed during the overhaul. It is complete with one parkerized military magazine. Included with the gun is a shipping box and the opened protective shipping wrap which is marked "1005-738-3026-B001/PISTOL AUTO CAL 45 M1911A1 NM W/E/1 EA A 7/64/SPRINGFIELD ARMORY". This same marking is on the box; however, some of the print is torn away. Also includes three extra new return springs.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished/upgraded to National Match specification with 97% finish showing some scattered minor slide retraction wear and thinning on the edges of the mainspring housing. The grips are also very fine showing some handling and light compressions. Mechanically excellent. The box is fair with added tape overall.
