Originally produced in December 1941 and subsequently arsenal upgraded to the M1D Sniper configuration, a procedure more typically performed on Springfield-made M1 receivers. Rifles so converted were used as sniper weapons during Korea and the Vietnam War. Blade front and peep rear sights, "DRC" windage and "S SI-" elevation drums, Springfield bolt, hammer, trigger housing, and relief cut operating rod and "S-A-1-52" dated barrel. Stock with a circled "P" and Springfield "SA" and Raritan Arsenal "RA". With a five-prong flash hider with unsealed vapor wrap, unmounted leather cheekpiece with unsealed packing material, shipping box with wrapping for the rifle, and sealed rifle scope. The nomenclature label on the scope packaging is torn, preventing proper identification, but the included 1972 dated DD Form 1750 Packing List identifies the scope as an M84. Also included with the lot are two canvas scope cases, bore and chamber brushes, butt trap tool kit with carrier, cleaning rods w/handles and accessories, conical flash hider, sling and rubber eye piece, many with original sealed packaging.

Very fine as upgraded by arsenal to M1D specification. Much of the surface shows a coating of white residue from the packing material, with minimal spotting and handling marks on the cleaned areas of the metal. The wood looks a bit dry, but is solid overall, with a few light dings. A pair of small holes are present on the underside of the buttstock, suggesting that a cheekpiece was installed and removed. The extra materials are in good shape. Mechanically excellent. An investment of time and care with this U.S. sniper could pay off in a big way.
